Our History
The name “Sunnyside” comes from the rich history of this land.
In the mid-19th century, Captain John Berry, one of the most respected builders in the antebellum Piedmont, resided here. Berry’s notoriety came from building many structures, churches, and government buildings in Hillsborough including, and most famously, the Orange County Courthouse. You will find his original house at the corner of the farm at Baldwin Rd. and St. Mary’s Rd, which he aptly named “Sunnyside” after the beautiful sunshine that often graces this area of the country.
